Set in contemporary Zimbabwe, MBARE DREAMS follows the life of a young boy from the age of eight with his big dreams, excitement and hopes for his own future and that of his family and his developing country. Set against the background of a nation struggling to find its democratic foundations, his dream of being a lawyer, a bomb-maker, a diplomatic journalist, a poltical activist and a loving son are all thwarted as he wakes up to a nation convulsing under domestic and international pressures. The revolution against the white oppressor has been victorious. But who have been the beneficiaries of that victory? The people? The government? The demogoue?

As the young boy slowly transforms into young man, he also transforms from being a passive viewer of his community to an active participant as he sets out to help rectify the causes of his fractured nation. He finds himself caught up in the most dramatic and disturbing political turmoil that threatens both his family and his own conscience in the most unexpected and surprising ways.

MBARE DREAMS sets a young African man on a course where his moral choices are challenged, where the personal and political collide, where sacrifices are demanded and the future is at stake. Come along on this journey of awakening and activism.
